What people have to say about the Fellowship

It''s about time someone created a support network for gun owners.  The Gun Owners Fellowship is a fantastic idea for today''s world where a gun owner may find him or herself in financial need simply for owning, carrying, or using a firearm responsibly.  I feel secure knowing that gun owners across the country are there to support me if I need it.
--
Fred Wescott, Winnebago County Illinois Board District 9

I joined the Gun Owners Fellowship today. I read about it in the Conceal Carry Magazine forum when they were discussing how to help someone who had been falsely arrested and needed help with expenses. This could happen to any of us and I wanted to help him plus (heaven forbid) I might need help one day.

Answer
·  What is it?

The Gun Owners Fellowship is simply a network of gun owners from around the country who promise to help one another financially should one of the members find themselves arrested, charged, or perhaps otherwise financially put-out for exercising their right to keep and bear arms within the law.

**It IS NOT insurance or casualties of any kind
**It IS NOT designed, intended, nor may be used to break the law or interfere with the enforcement of any laws
**It IS NOT a guarantee of any kind

·  Why go to this trouble?

We know what it's like to be wrongfully arrested and face substantial legal expenses for exercising one's self defense rights within the law. Founders of the Gun Owners Fellowship have personally invested tens of thousands of dollars into legal defenses.

For years now, ICarry.org has received phone calls and electronic correspondence from gun owners and their friends/family who have been victimized and persecuted for exercising their rights. Too often the financial burden of proving your innocence in court is used as political intimidation -- indeed oppression -- to dissuade law-abiding folks from owning and carrying guns for their own protection.

·  What does it cost?

A small one-time fee of $97 is the current cost. This price is for LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP of you and (if applicable) your spouse.

After that, it will NOT cost you anything unless one of the members is wrongfully arrested, charged, etc.

·  Where does the membership money go?

Money raised from memberships goes to cover our operating costs including but not limited to: domain names, web hosting, advertising/marketing, records-keeping, employees and administration, and similar expenses. Expenses will be kept to the bare minimum.

All monies remaining after expenses will be used when a legitimate request is fulfilled by the fellowship -- meaning when a member needs it.

·  How does it actually work?

It is quite a simple design.

Members pay a one-time fee, for example we'll use $30 even. 100 members initially sign up. So that is $3,000.

-

$1,000 in expenses

$2,000 remains in the defense fund for the membership. If member John Doe is arrested and he needs $1,000 for his defense, $1,000 is given to him directly from the defense fund, and no one has to pay anything. If John Doe needs $3,000 instead of $1,000, then the entire $2,000 in the defense fund goes to him.

But wait, John Doe still needs an additional $1,000 for his defense. Since there are 100 members in this example, each member sends in $10 to the fellowship. The fellowship collects the $1,000 John Doe needs and gives it directly to his attorney.

The Gun Owners Fellowship has completely covered the financial costs of John Doe's illegal persecution, John Doe is happy, his family is happy, the members of the Gun Owners Fellowship are happy to help, and the Gun Owners Fellowship can show the world how it has helped John Doe and 100 new people will want to join right away. :)

It's good for everyone!

·  How is it enforced?

There is no legal obligation for members to support one another. Members cannot be held responsible or liable under the law.

So how do we know members will come through? Gun owners are usually upstanding citizens, statistically more law-abiding, better educated, more responsible, and more financially-secure than the average citizen. But more importantly, it is a promise of support. Each member is held by his or her word.

Also, if a member does not come through within 30 days of the fellowship's request for money for a member, that member will be suspended. A suspended member is not elligible for the fellowship's support. If Member X doesn't pay for Member Y then no one will be paying for Member X should he need it.

·  Why is there such a strong disclaimer? Is this a scam?

This is not a scam -- ask the dozens of members who have signed up, ask Chris Morley who has received financially assistance, and ask yourself.

The reason for our disclaimers and hold harmless and indemnity agreements is to protect the fellowship, its founders, those who run it, and each and every individual member like yourself.

·  Who can join? Who cannot?

Law-abiding citizens from all states may join. As long as you can legally own firearms (it is your responsibility to know this), you can join the fellowship.

The fellowship is not open to criminals. If you commit crimes against people, property, etc you may not even apply to the fellowship. Members who are convicted of crimes after joining risk membership revocation (depends on the nature of the crime).

·  Is this only for Illinois citizens?

NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. This is for citizens of all states. Current membership represents multiple states, and soon we will have members from EVERY state. So please join -- you could be the first in your state.
