What people have to say about the Fellowship

It''s about time someone created a support network for gun owners.  The Gun Owners Fellowship is a fantastic idea for today''s world where a gun owner may find him or herself in financial need simply for owning, carrying, or using a firearm responsibly.  I feel secure knowing that gun owners across the country are there to support me if I need it.

Fred Wescott, Winnebago County Illinois Board District 9

I joined the Gun Owners Fellowship today. I read about it in the Conceal Carry Magazine forum when they were discussing how to help someone who had been falsely arrested and needed help with expenses. This could happen to any of us and I wanted to help him plus (heaven forbid) I might need help one day.

Welcome to the Gun Owners Fellowship -- ACCESS RESTRICTED!!!
Gun Owners Fellowship

Welcome to the new home of the Gun Owners Fellowship!

Nationwide network of gun owners who stand together. Open to citizens of all states!!!

Owning a firearm and carrying a firearm are big responsibilities. Whether you're a law enforcement officer or a citizen who understands that to be safe, you may need to dangerous, responsilbility comes with being able to defend yourself. What you may not know, is that financial responsibilities may be attached to the mere ownership of a gun these days.

What can I do?

In two simple words: Be prepared.

Most people own firearms to be prepared for circumstances. You may need to protect yourself from a violent criminals, thugs, gang members, or angry mobs. Violence happens everyday, and everyday the innocent perish - usually because they are not prepared.

You probably already know this since you're on this web page.

Am I prepared right now?

You may be prepared to defend yourself, but are you prepared for the aftermath? Many people have opened my eyes over the years to using a gun in self-defense. My concealed carry instructor, fellow advocates of personal defense, and law enforcement officers who have seen and been involved in self-defense first hand.

Two things are very sobering, and you should take some time to dwell on them: if you fire a gun in self-defense, it will change your life forever. You will not be the same person afterward. This is especially true if your attacker loses his life because of it. Some law enforcement officers aren't able to go back to work after a situation like that. Everyone has to live with it the rest of their life.

The second aspect, which I first learned from my concealed carry instructor, when you press that trigger, it will most likely be the single most expensive thing you ever do in your life. Depending on where you live, what the laws are, and how the local government officials respect self-defense, you may face criminal prosecution.

It does happen! In the worst case scenario, you may go to trial and have a judge or jury review what happened and decide whether or not you "really" did what you had to do, or perhaps you could have jumped out a window to get away from the armed attacker in your bedroom instead.

One thing is almost certain - if your attacker survives, he will most likely sue you. He probably won't win, but it will cost you a fortune in legal expenses. This has bankrupt people. If your attacker doesn't survive, his family will sue you. After being a victim once, and effectively defending yourself out of necessity, you've now become a victim again.

Legal expenses for self-defense scenarios will run in the 10s of 1,000s of dollars if not 100s of 1,000s of dollars.

What options are out there?

  1. Insurance - there are good insurance policies, and bad ones. Good ones cover as many scenarios as possible. Bad ones may attempt to "wiggle" out of paying should you file a claim. All insurance has one thing in common, however - it's very expensive. Cost of insurance for using a gun in self defense usually ranges in the $100s of dollars per year.
  2. Non-insurance - the Gun Owners Fellowship offers a service that is NOT insurance/casualties, but can bring the same if not better results. The Fellowship is a network of gun owners across the country who are ready to support one another should the need arise. It is a "pack" mentality - if one of the pack members needs help, the others share the burden and assist that member until he is restored to normal. The cost is minimal - a small one-time fee for life membership that costs less than a single year of insurance!
  3. Nothing - having nothing is not an option for those who are prepared!

Peace of mind

We all hope and pray to never have to use a gun. But some of us will not have a choice. Afterward, it may be a long healing process to deal with what happened. No matter what, we know that after a firearm self-defense situation, we don't want the stress of being financially burdened by the situation.

A support network, not only for financial support, but for moral support, can be very beneficial.

What else can the Fellowship offer me?

The other primary difference between the Fellowship and insurance besides cost, is what situations you can receive support in. Gun owners find themselves in legal situations more often just for simply owning a gun or carrying a gun than anything else. You could even live in a generally concealed-carry friendly state, but many situations can get you into financial trouble with the legal system.

Gun owners are often treated as second-class citizens. They face harassment for carrying openly or concealed, they are often detained, questioned, disarmed, and far too often ticketed or arrested. Their guns are confiscated and sometimes never returned! Many areas of the country are still very bad, and even in good areas you can always encounter a law enforcement officer who's had a very bad day, and on top of it doesn't like other people besides himself carrying guns around!

Things are getting better, but very slowly. Gun owners need to stick together to stand up against harassment and persecution.

We can help! We have already!

The Gun Owners Fellowship has already helped one person out - Chris Morley from Chicago, IL. Chris was arrested shortly after the Fellowship formed. He was not a member at the time, but being a personal friend of mine, and my having been in the same situation as him, so I wanted to help out. With the help of the Fellowship, we raised $2,000 for Chris's legal defense.

We donated money from lifetime membership fees in addition to helping raise money on the Internet from non-members. We didn't ask our members to donate, since Chris wasn't a member when the incident happened, but some did anyway and no one minded us helping him out!

Who is Chris Morley and why was he arrested? Chris has been involved in the concealed carry movement in Illinois for many years. He lived in Chicago, worked in Chicago, and carried a gun for protection. You see, Chris suffers from cerebral palsy, and walks with a cane. He's a small guy and has a disadvantage - he can't run and he needs a self-defense tool. On multiple occasions, thugs attempted to mug Chris, and merely showing he had a gun was all it took to stop his attackers cold - no shots fired or anything.

Chris kept his gun unloaded and in a carrying container as the law in Illinois requires. One day when he was feeling ill at work, Chris had a coworker lock his personal belongings including his bag in his desk. That coworker or another must have pried through his personal effects, because someone discovered the gun and called the police. Chris was fired, spent a couple days in jail, and had to come up with thousands of dollars for a legal defense.

Chris Morley's charges were dismissed thanks to the legal defense by his attorney paid for by the Gun Owners Fellowship!

Since then we have grown exponentially, and we still have no had a single request for support. This means our members have paid $0 recurring cost for membership!!!

Do you...

  • Carry a firearm open or concealed?
  • Keep a firearm in the house?
  • Travel to and from the range, hunting grounds, or anywhere else with a firearm?
  • Own a firearm and cherish that right?

If so, the Fellowship...

  • Can help protect you and your family against financial burden.
  • Will give you peace of mind by always being there.
  • Understand what being prepared is.
  • Can be counted-on, because our members all count on one another.

How does it work?

  1. Members join and pay a one-time lifetime fee of $89.95. Fee covers one person and their spouse for life.
  2. If a member is arrested, Fellowship administration will use remaining monies to cover their defense if possible.
  3. If one-time membership fees alone do not cover the costs, the remaining cost is apportioned evenly among all members. (eg. if there are 1,000 members, and member John Doe incurs $10,000 in costs, each member pays $10 and John Doe doesn't go broke).
  4. The evenly-apportioned costs have a limit of $100 per incident.

There's more, though.

I started the fellowship because I faced unlawful arrest and false charges like Chris Morley in Illinois. Since then, Chris and others who have faced such fate in the past have joined. Through our own experiences, we have learned a great deal about lawyers and the legal system.

The fellowship and its members share a wealth of knowledge with one another. Myself and other administrators will be there for you right when something happens, so that we may share our personal experience and non-legal advice with you. We can help you find a good attorney, help you get the money for it -- most likely 100% of the money -- and help you through until it is all behind you.

It's about safety

You're here because you know that the world can be a dangerous place and you should be prepared. We applaud you for that. We want you to be safe without worrying what could/would happen if you had to defend yourself, or what would/could happen if you encountered a law enforcement officer or other official who doesn't understand the law or worse has contempt for the law.

Protect yourself and yours from harm with proper knowledge and tools. Be prepared.

I'm interested, now what?
